Just say YES! The service groups of the church are created from four deacon groups each month. They are asked to serve in a service group twice a year. The four deacon lists are combined into one group and are asked to help out the church family in a variety of ways: 1) by providing coffee and refreshments on Sundays between services; 2) by providing receptions for funerals and memorials as a ministry to the grieving family; 3) by providing home meals to those who might need support during crisis and/or illness; and 4) by helping to serve at church-wide celebrations, conferences, and other gatherings where there is need. Please do say yes (it’s the opposite of just say no!), and the Lord will bless your affirmative in ways you won’t even expect!
 
VAN DRIVERS! We are still in need of van drivers! If you can, please volunteer for the late service on the first Sunday of the month. It doesn’t require a special license. It doesn’t require you to drive a special van. There are those in our church family who would really enjoy coming to worship at St. Paul to praise and worship God together with us. Please consider this important ministry of the church. Call the church office for more details. Thank you.

CHRISTCARE IS HERE! We start our small groups next week (2.5.06), and there is much excitement and enthusiasm about the groups! Sign ups are in the narthex but all are welcome to join the groups throughout the process. Come and see! Just like Jesus who asked His followers. Just like Phillip who told his friends about Jesus. We are to come and see! For God has a place for each of us around the table of spiritual nourishment and growth.
 
CHRISTCARE TRAINING. We are in the process of gathering up the troops for new leaders for ChristCare! If you think you might be interested in becoming a leader for a topic that you have a passion for, talk to Ellen Tanouye or Janet Theilen. They are the official ChristCare Equippers of the church, and they would be glad to talk with you. Topics can be anything from exercising, doing crafts, to working on cars or tinkering with wood projects in the shed. As long as you’re passionate about it, the ChristCare focus will take shape and your ministry will take off. Call the office for more information.

Through our donation last year of 128 pair of new shoes, we shared the Good News of peace with TLC School, the Salvation Army and St. Mary’s Interfaith Dining Hall.  Join me this year again in spreading the Good News by bringing new shoes or slippers to the church beginning Sunday, January 22.  Place them in the narthex.  You may bring either children or adult shoes.  Athletic shoes are often preferred.  We will have a blessing of the shoes on Sunday, January 29.  Socks and underwear are also appreciated.  Kathy Knight

Kerry Hutmacher is putting together Christmas stockings for children at the Lodi Boys and Girls Club, Lodi House, and those who attend our Christmas pageant. She is looking for donations of toys, candy, fruit, or cash with which to purchase items. Call her at 339-2964 or 482-1433.

 

Help! We need adult supervision in our nursery/toddler care department during worship hours! If you like to be with little children and don’t have your grandchildren nearby to enjoy, please consider assisting our childcare ministry from 7:45 am to 9:15 am or from 10:15 am to 11:45 am. We have had a dramatic increase in our nursery/toddler population! Please call the office if God is nudging you to help out with the children. We would certainly appreciate your help!

Our hearts are still overflowing from the love and care you showed us during our interim time together.  Your farewell for us was overwhelming and we felt your blessings all the way to our new home in Kansas City.  We are so thankful that Pastor Mark and Lisa are now in place and you are beginning a brand new chapter of life together.  The good people here at Gloria Dei in Kansas City are so much like you in their warmth and desire to make the most of the interim time.  We thank God for all of you.

Our youth ministry program is sponsoring a parent-teen forum on communication based issues. This event is open to everyone and will be done in a talk show format, with a panel consisting of both youth and parents. Topics include: partying, setting rules and enforcing them, discipline, curfews, driving, pressure, grades, setting priorities and dating. This forum will be held in Morton Hall and is open to the public, beginning at 6:30 pm with refreshments to follow.

Help! We need adult supervision in our nursery/toddler care department during worship hours! If you like to be with little children and don’t have your grandchildren nearby to enjoy, please consider assisting our childcare ministry from 7:45 am to 9:15 am or from 10:15 am to 11:45 am. We have two adult supervisors who take turns being in charge each week, but we have had a dramatic increase in our nursery/toddler population! Please call the office if God is nudging you to help out with the children. We would certainly appreciate your help!
 
United Lutheran Church Annual German Advent Service
This is a service of the Advent season with the service and music entirely in the German language. The Heimat Choir from Stockton, California will lead the singing of traditional German carols. Rev. Peter Krey from Oakland, California and formerly a resident of Germany will be the presiding minister. Following the worship service there will be a reception in the social hall with special German treats and beverages.

Thank you, knitting ladies, for all the knitting you have done and all the ladies that have given me yarn. I will not be doing this project any more but it has been a delightful six years. You have been very generous in behalf of the needy. This year I collected and gave away 26 blankets, 68 scarves, 92 pairs of booties, 9 caps, 7 pairs of mittens and a baby sweater and cap set. Thank you all again and many blessings for all the work you have done.
 
Christmas Day and New Year’s Day both fall on Sunday this year.
There will be only ONE worship service both weeks at 10:00 AM.
The last week of TGIT for the holiday season will be December 15th.TGIT, Peals of Praise, and Chancel Choir will all resume the second week of January, as follows:

Sign up to go! Our Fellowship Board would like to start off the holiday season by organizing their first event! We will carpool on these two days from the church parking lot. We will leave one hour before the concert on both days.
 
The tickets are only $20! Let’s sign up on Sunday and order our tickets together. What a wonderful way to fellowship together by attending this event as a group! (The ticket order will be phoned in from the office on Monday afternoon, so please call the office by then if you want tickets!) It will be a blessing to enjoy this musical offering! Also, our very own Ted Cetto will be directing the Stockton Chorale for this event! Let’s go and support his leadership!

Bring to the church before 9:00 AM December 6th and they will be bagged and given along with lap robes, made by the Quilters, to our members who are in convalescent hospitals, rehab centers, assisted living homes, care centers, or who are shut ins. This is our yearly project to remember our friends, and bring them a little Christmas cheer.

Benefit Concert for Hurricane Relief: November 19th
Our church is hosting a free "Praise Rock" concert on Saturday, November 19th at 7pm in Morton Hall. The nationally acclaimed...San Francisco based band "SEED" will be here to perform. All the money raised through a goodwill offering and a bake sale will go directly to the Lutheran Church relief effort. THIS CONCERT ISN"T JUST FOR YOUTH...the music is awesome and we need all of you to try and support it! Childcare provided.
SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING-- We are scheduled to ring from November 18th –December 24 from 2-7 PM. Sign up TODAY in the sanctuary entry.
 
PARENT-TEEN FORUM: NOVEMBER 27TH - 6:30 pm
Our youth ministry program is sponsoring a parent-teen forum on communication based issues. This event is open to everyone and will be done in a talk show format, with a panel consisting of both youth and parents. Topics include: partying, setting rules and enforcing them, discipline, curfews, driving, pressure, grades, setting priorities and dating. This forum will be held in Morton Hall and is open to the public, beginning at 6:30 pm with refreshments to follow.
 
Know any 3rd graders???  It's time for our annual distribution of Bibles to our 3rd graders.  Please contact the church office if you have a 3rd grader in your family or if you know a 3rd grader you would like to receive a Bible.  More information to come!    Jacki Roth, Board of Education, Chair

BENEFIT CONCERT FOR HURRICANE RELIEF
NOVEMBER 19th, 7 pm IN MORTON HALL
St. Paul is hosting a major Christian music event on Saturday, November 19th at 7pm. All the proceeds will go directly to the relief effort. The concert is free—donations accepted. The concert features two bay-area recording artists: Seed and Shadrack. The music is praise-rock in style, and we encourage adults of all ages to come and support this worthy cause! Concert will be in Morton Hall, with homemade dessert items (made by several local youth groups) be sold at intermission.
